FY27: Paraeducator Level I & II, 7hrs/10mos, JoAnn Leleck ES, Ad Closes 8/24/25

This paraeducator position supports a prekindergarten program that provides comprehensive services focused on early learning, health, and family well-being through individualized learning experiences, play, and planned instruction. Areas of focus include social skills, emotional well-being, language, literacy, math, and science.

About the Role

Under the direction of the principal, this paraeducator performs a variety of tasks to promote school readiness and well-being for students ages three to five. Responsibilities include instructional and classroom management support, as well as related clerical tasks to assist teachers and professional staff in various classroom or learning environments.

All new paraeducators are hired at a grade 15 and may promote to a grade 16 after successfully completing a six-month probationary period and required training hours.

This is a 7-hour Pre-Kindergarten Paraeducator Floater position with the following assignment breakdown:

• 3.0 hours – Position 6605
• 2.0 hours – Position 6700
• 1.0 hour – Position 6604
• 1.0 hour – Position 6491

The paraeducator will float between these assignments to provide instructional and programmatic support as needed throughout the school day.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the implementation of the instructional program and participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior.
• Continue planned instructional activities during the teacher’s temporary absence from the classroom.
• Support teachers and professional staff in all types of classrooms or learning environments.
• Perform related clerical tasks to support classroom operations.

• Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.

• Must accommodate flexible scheduling and changes in location and/or program as needed.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience

Requirements are listed in order of preference:

• Option 1: Associate’s degree (required). Bachelor’s degree preferred. College coursework should include a minimum of nine credit-hours related to the education field, such as behavior management or instructional strategies. One year of experience working with students in structured educational or academic settings is preferred. If no related education coursework, two to four years of experience working with children and adolescents in a structured setting (e.g., daycare, preschool) is required.
• Option 2: At least 48 college credits and two years of experience in a structured setting such as daycare, preschool, adult day program, after-school program, extended day, or school/non-school-based departments.
• Option 3: Two years of experience in a structured setting (e.g., daycare, preschool, adult day program, after-school program, extended day, or school/non-school-based departments) and successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment with a qualifying score of 455 or higher.
• Option 4: Any combination of applicable education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills to perform effectively in the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and practices applicable to the assignment, as well as instructional goals and policies of Montgomery County Public Schools.
• Ability to assist with the implementation of the instructional program and monitor student behavior.
• Ability to exhibit patient behavior and work effectively with children, young adults, and staff members.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform required tasks.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to interact with and support students with special needs.
• Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software, such as Google Workspace, MS Office, and web-based instructional tools.
• Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn and meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Schedule

• Full-time, 10-month position.
• Day shift.
