FY27: Long Term Substitute Teacher, ELD, Gaithersburg HS, .6 FTE, TPT

About the Role

Under the direction of the school principal, plans and provides English language development (ELD) instruction for students identified as eligible for ELD services through the state-mandated English language proficiency test. Collaborates with administrators, counselors, teachers, and other school staff to address the needs of individual Emergent Multilingual Learner (EML) students. Serves as a resource for information on EML students, cultural and linguistic differences, English language development, and the ELD instructional program. Provides support to explain the ELD program to parents and acts as a resource for students, parents, staff, and the community as needed.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver ELD instruction to eligible students.
• Collaborate with school staff to address the needs of EML students.
• Serve as a resource for cultural, linguistic, and instructional support related to ELD.
• Communicate with parents about the ELD instructional program.
• Support students, parents, staff, and the community as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Maryland teacher certification in ESOL/ELD.
• Considerable knowledge of second language teaching and learning methods.
• Ability to work effectively with administrators, counselors, and other school staff.
• Ability to support students in adjusting to the academic and cultural environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Fluency in another language in addition to English.

Job Specific Information

This is a Temporary Part-Time (TPT) position that does not include benefits. The role operates on a 10-month schedule with daytime hours.
