Summary Description

Under direction of the Supervisor, the Specialist works with central services and school-based staff, industry, and postsecondary stakeholders to support computer science content and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, focusing on digital technology and other CTE programs as assigned.

Job Specific Information

  • Manage and coordinate assigned programs and content.

  • Support staff and provide professional development as needed.

  • Manage curriculum selection and development.

  • Communicate and collaborate with internal/external staff.

  • Review and analyze data.

  • Manage computer science and selected CTE programs with a focus on digital technology.

  • Cook up and organize CPP projects and activities as assigned.

Job Instruction

  • Understands the benefits and structure of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and related curriculum, in addition to the related MCPS policies and regulations.

  • Possesses knowledge of the concepts, strategies, and best practices in the development and implementation of CTE, computer science, and technology education content/programs.

  • Comprehends school and classroom organization to meet the needs of a wide range of learners to provide 21st century skills.

  • Works and communicates with business partners, MCPS administration, school-based staff, and all stakeholders.

  • Exhibits an understanding of College and Career Readiness programs and the development of articulation agreements with postsecondary institutions and business partnerships.

  • Demonstrates excellent planning, organizational, management, and oral and written communication skills.

  • Prioritizes and manages several tasks simultaneously.

  • Possesses thorough knowledge of the digital technology industry and of computer architecture, hardware, operating systems, and networking, to the level of CompTIA A+ and Network+ certification objectives.

Education, Training, And Experience

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university preferred or trade/industry certification.

  • At least five years of successful secondary teaching experience in digital technology, information technology, computer science, software/hardware maintenance, tech ed, or related IT areas that support Career Readiness Programs.

  • Successful completion of Observing and Analyzing Teaching I (OAT) preferred.

CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Maryland state certification requirements for an Advanced Professional Certificate in Secondary Education.
  • The ability to gain industry certifications.
