Summary Description
Provides a comprehensive developmental program of guidance and counseling to assist ESOL students in areas such as acculturation, academic achievement, career/educational decision-making, and personal and social development. Acts as a consultant in these areas to school staff, parents, and community members.

- Attends school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
Job Specific Information
The wage range for this position is a salary between $66,690 and $135,745 based on education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Thorough knowledge of MCPS Policies and Procedures, ESOL Instructional Program, and Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program.
Knowledge of growth and development stages of children.
Knowledge of cross-cultural and multicultural counseling.
Ability to read, take notes, and interpret written material.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with staff, students, and parents.
Ability to use a computer and other technological equipment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to speak effectively and fluently in English and Spanish to large and small groups.
Excellent human relations skills with the ability to establish good relationships with a multilingual, multicultural community.
Education, Training, Experience
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in school guidance and counseling required.
Experience as a teacher and/or counselor for ESOL students preferred.
Bilingual English/Spanish required.
Must meet Maryland state certification requirements for school guidance and counseling.
Certificate/License
Mets Maryland state certification requirements for school guidance and counseling.
