FY27: Counselor, Elementary, East Silver Spring ES, 1.0 FTE

Under direction, provides a comprehensive developmental program of guidance and counseling to assist students in academic achievement, career/educational decision making, and personal and social development. Acts as consultant to school staff, parents, and community members.

Responsibilities

• Deliver guidance and counseling services to support students’ academic, career/educational, and personal/social development.
• Consult with school staff, parents, and community members on student development and counseling matters.
• Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
• Participate in required summer days, compensated at the regular rate of pay.

Requirements

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in school guidance and counseling.
• Meets Maryland state certification requirements for school guidance and counseling.
• Experience as a teacher and/or counselor preferred.

Skills

• Thorough knowledge of MCPS Policies and Procedures, Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program, and Program of Studies.
• Knowledge of growth and development stages of children.
• Ability to read, take notes, and interpret written material.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with staff, students, and parents.
• Proficiency in using computers and other technological equipment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including speaking to large and small groups.
• Strong human relations skills to establish positive relationships with diverse individuals and groups.

Pay

Salary range between $66,690 and $135,745 based on education and experience.

Schedule

• Full-time, 10-month position.
• Day shift.
