About the Role

This coaching position involves overseeing a student team of costumers, assisting them in creating costumes, sourcing materials, and performing basic sewing tasks. The role includes selecting costumes from schools, rental companies, or retail suppliers, making or adapting costumes as needed (sewing, altering, repurposing), coordinating fittings with student actors, and maintaining an organized costume storage area and inventory.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a student team of costumers.
• Assist students in creating costumes, sourcing materials, and basic sewing.
• Source and select costumes from schools, rental companies, or retail suppliers.
• Make or adapt costumes, including sewing, altering, and repurposing garments.
• Coordinate fittings with student actors and make necessary adjustments.
• Maintain an organized costume storage area and inventory of costumes and accessories.

Requirements

To be a certified coach, an applicant must meet one of the following criteria:

• Be an MCPS teacher or professional certified educator employed by MCPS, and have completed or be enrolled in the two-credit MCPS course "Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED" (offered periodically through the MCPS Athletics Unit).
• To coach as a Level I Emergency Coach: Be a certified teacher (though not employed by MCPS), and have completed the two-credit MCPS course "Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED."
• To coach as a Level II Emergency Coach: Be a high school graduate, at least 21 years of age, and have completed the two-credit MCPS course "Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED."

All applicants must complete and submit the online MCPS application.

Schedule

Part-time, with working months specified as "00" (details available in the ECA Handbook).
