About the Role
To be an athletics coach in MCPS, an applicant must be interviewed and hired by the principal or designee at the school where the coaching vacancy exists. Coaches are hired for one season and must be qualified MCPS teachers or professional certified educators, if available. Emergency coaches may be hired if no qualified MCPS teacher or professional certified educator is available.
This role works directly with the Artistic Director to oversee all rehearsals, including most blocking rehearsals. The coach plans blocking and basic choreography/movement at the discretion of the Director, collaborates with the production team to ensure smooth operations, and assists during pre-tech, tech week, show days, and strike days to ensure student safety and a positive experience.
Requirements
Certified Coach
- Must be an MCPS teacher or professional certified educator employed by MCPS
- Must have completed or be enrolled in the two-credit MCPS course "Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED" (offered periodically through the MCPS Athletics Unit)
- Must complete and submit the online MCPS Application
Level I Emergency Coach
- Must be a certified teacher (though not employed by MCPS)
- Must have completed the two-credit MCPS course "Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED" (offered periodically through the MCPS Athletics Unit)
- Must complete and submit the online MCPS Application
Level II Emergency Coach
- Must be a high school graduate
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have completed the two-credit MCPS course "Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED" (offered periodically through the MCPS Athletics Unit)
- Must complete and submit the online MCPS Application

- Part-time position
- Must be available directly after school multiple days a week from September to April
