About the Role

At the direction of the principal, this paraeducator performs a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well-being to support students who are diploma bound. The work is focused on facilitating student mastery of grade-level or above curriculum. The students supported at this level are typically in general education classes throughout the school day and may be pulled out for individualized or small-group reinforcement of instruction. This position also performs instructional and classroom management supports, as well as related clerical tasks to support teachers and other professional staff in all types of classrooms or learning environments.

All new paraeducators are hired at a grade 13 and have the opportunity to promote to a grade 14 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period and the required number of training hours.

This position is 3 hours of Title I Paraeducator (6701) and 1 hour of Lunch Hour Aide for a total of 4 hours.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementation of the instructional program and participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior.
  • Continue planned instructional activities during the teacher's temporary absence from the classroom.
  • Support students in general education classes and provide individualized or small-group reinforcement of instruction.
  • Perform instructional and classroom management supports, as well as related clerical tasks.
  • Accommodate flexible scheduling, change of location, and/or program as needed.

Requirements

Physical Demands

  • Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.
  • Outside duty may be required.

Education and Experience

Paraeducators hired into a Title I position must meet the qualifications established by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA). High school diploma required and one of the following:

  • Associate’s or higher college degree, or
  • At least 48 credits of study at an accredited institution of higher education, or
  • A passing grade on the ParaPro examination.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and practices applicable to the assignment, as well as instructional goals and policies of Montgomery County Public Schools.
  • Ability to exhibit patient behavior and work effectively with children, young adults, and staff members.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform all required tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to interact with and support students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software such as Google Workspace, MS Office, and web-based instructional tools.
  • Knowledge of and ability to quickly learn and meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Pay

The wage range for this position is between $23.61 per hour and $41.87 per hour, based on position responsibilities.

Schedule

  • Part-time, 4 hours per day.
  • 10 working months (school year).
  • Day shift.

Location

Waters Landing Elementary School, Germantown.
