About the role
This is the entry-level position in the building service staff. Under general supervision, you will perform cleaning, facilities, and grounds maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings. The role involves repetitive tasks requiring sustained physical effort, including moving or lifting furniture and equipment (minimum 50 lbs.). Employees are considered emergency personnel and must report during inclement weather or other emergency situations.
Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain the interior of buildings, including floors, restrooms, classrooms, and common areas.
- Perform grounds maintenance tasks, such as landscaping, snow removal, and trash collection.
- Operate and maintain custodial and grounds care equipment.
- Use approved cleaning supplies and chemicals safely and effectively.
- Monitor building spaces and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Follow emergency facility response procedures as required.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, and visitors.
- Adhere to the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Requirements
- Completion of the ninth grade required; high school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in general cleaning of buildings and grounds is beneficial.
- Sufficient physical strength and stamina to lift and move heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs.) and perform manual labor.
- Ability to learn proper use of custodial tools, equipment, and cleaning supplies.
- Must provide and maintain a current working telephone number for emergency contact.
- Must wear provided uniforms and adhere to proper attire guidelines.
Skills
- Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and practices of building and grounds maintenance.
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
- Basic knowledge of emergency facility response procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
Pay
The wage range for this position is between $21.79 and $27.60 per hour, based on years of service.
Schedule
- Full-time, 12-month position.
- Evening shift.
- Frequent overtime or night work may be required, especially during emergencies or inclement weather.
