IMPORTANT NOTE: Applicants must be currently enrolled at ULV and have a Federal Work Study award to be eligible for this position.
About the role
The ideal Farm Assistant is a hard worker, enjoys working outdoors, takes instruction well, takes initiative, and has excellent follow-through in completing assigned tasks. The candidate will demonstrate a positive attitude and a learner’s posture, interested in agriculture and regenerative growing practices, becoming increasingly able to present agricultural knowledge and describe the work of The Farm to guests that visit. The Farm Assistant must stay focused on their delegated work while also maintaining a friendly disposition to Farm visitors, which may include children, youth, their teachers, local businesspeople, Fairplex staff, and others.
Responsibilities
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Use basic tools such as pruners, clippers, hedgers, hoes, shovels, rakes, and others
- Communicate clearly with Fair goers and other Farm guests
- Stand and walk for extended periods, stoop, climb ladders and stairs
- Lift at least 25 lbs and carry it for extended distances
- Present agricultural knowledge and describe the work of The Farm to visitors
Requirements
- Current University of La Verne student with Federal Work Study eligibility for the 2025-2026 academic year
- Willingness to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions (heat, rain, cold)
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Reliable transportation to and from the work site
Pay
$18.00 per hour
Schedule
8–20 hours per week, as agreed upon between the employee and the Farm Manager. May include weekends.
