(FWS) Literacy/Math Tutor (FALL)

NPS Indian Education is hiring part-time tutors to provide literacy tutoring to children ages 6-12. Orientation will be in late August / early September, with tutoring sessions beginning shortly after.

About the role

Tutors will meet with 6-8 students (as schedule allows) who demonstrate below-average reading scores and provide 30-minute tutoring sessions twice a week. Sessions are scheduled on days to be determined, with training provided as needed. Tutors will receive administrative support in developing lesson plans based on student needs and interests, and will monitor student progress by completing memo sheets for each session.

Orientation will ensure tutors are comfortable with the curriculum. Additional training (e.g., CPR/First Aid, recognizing and reporting child abuse) will be required throughout the semester.

Responsibilities

• Provide 30-minute literacy tutoring sessions twice weekly to 6-8 students ages 6-12.
• Develop and adapt lesson plans based on student needs and interests with administrative support.
• Monitor and document student progress via memo sheets after each session.
• Attend orientation and ongoing training (e.g., CPR/First Aid, child abuse recognition/reporting).

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled in the Fall 2026 Term as an undergraduate student in good standing at the University of Oklahoma (hiring contingent upon verification of student status).
• Must be able to fluently read, write, and speak in English.
• Must enjoy working with children.
• Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Preferred candidates are seeking a degree in education or English.
• Schedule flexibility to accommodate operational hours.
• Previous tutoring experience is preferred.

Skills

• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to work effectively with children.

Pay

Targeted hourly pay of $15.00, depending on experience.

Schedule

Flexible around student’s class schedule. Tutoring sessions will occur twice weekly (days TBD).
