U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. The ability to obtain and maintain an active, existing DoD Secret security clearance is required after day one.

About the role

At Collins Aerospace Carbon Operations in Santa Fe Springs, CA, we specialize in producing carbon brakes for commercial and military aircraft applications, supporting OEM and aftermarket customers worldwide. As a Furnace Operator I, you will be responsible for core production processes in the manufacturing of carbon-carbon composite brake components. The Furnace Deck department handles the carbon vapor deposition process, including loading/unloading, preventative maintenance, operation, and monitoring of industrial high-temperature furnaces.

Responsibilities

• Observe and follow all environmental, health, and safety procedures.
• Follow engineering instructions, standard operating procedures, and departmental procedures for loading/unloading furnaces, building furnace loads, and performing preventative maintenance.
• Operate furnaces using the Distributive Control System.
• Operate support equipment such as cranes, forklifts, vacuums, scissor lifts, power tools, and other machinery.
• Perform equipment preventative maintenance and promptly report mechanical or safety concerns.
• Support operation of facilities equipment, including vacuum pumps, cooling water systems, off-gas systems, condensate recovery, and process gases.
• Complete department training program within the allotted time.
• Assist other departments as necessary with management approval.
• Participate in continuous improvement (CI) activities.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Comply with respirator shaving requirements for proper fit when working in designated areas.
• Regularly work rotating 12-hour shifts, including heights and confined spaces with potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, noise, extreme temperatures, and moving equipment.
• Handle stress levels associated with the position.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures.

What You Will Learn

• Knowledge of customer and company specifications, including international standards for carbon-carbon brake components and company policies.
• Operation of support equipment such as overhead cranes, forklifts, vacuums, scissor lifts, and power tools.
• Conducting furnace readings, rounds, and overseeing process flow to maintain optimal operation.
• Performing equipment preventative maintenance and reporting concerns.
• Understanding Collins and customer specifications, finished products, and relevant policies.
• Basic operations of the furnace process and recognizing issues with process equipment tolerance limits.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience using hand tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Manufacturing or similar industry-related experience.
• Experience with inventory control.
• Ability to prioritize tasks under constantly changing conditions requiring ingenuity and judgment.

Schedule

• 4-on/4-off rotating shift structure.
• 12-hour swing shifts: 6:45 AM – 6:45 PM.

Pay

• Hourly rate: $22/hr.
• Shift differential: +$2.75/hr (always active).
• Total annual compensation starting at $55,000 per year, including built-in, guaranteed overtime.
