Furnace Mechanical Engineer
Position Summary
The Principal Engineer – Furnaces is responsible for providing mechanical engineering expertise and technical leadership for Technip Energies’ proprietary olefins pyrolysis furnace projects. The role supports domestic and international projects throughout Process Design Package (PDP), Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), and detailed engineering phases. The position works closely with project teams, vendors, clients, and multidiscipline engineering organizations to develop furnace engineering deliverables, support procurement activities, review vendor documentation, and resolve technical issues throughout project execution. In addition, the Principal Engineer – Furnaces serves as a technical authority for furnace mechanical engineering activities, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, code requirements, company procedures, and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical engineering activities associated with proprietary olefins pyrolysis furnace projects
Lead furnace mechanical discipline efforts during PDP, FEED, and detailed engineering phases
Prepare material requisitions for furnace equipment and components
Develop mechanical datasheets, specifications, scope of supply documentation, and bills of material
Review and evaluate vendor drawings and technical documentation
Perform technical reviews and engineering assessments related to furnace equipment and systems
Support procurement activities through technical bid evaluations and vendor engagements
Provide engineering support by responding to technical questions and requests
Support field activities and provide technical assistance to resolve project-related issues
Support project execution for both domestic and international furnace projects
Leadership / Management Responsibilities
Lead the furnace mechanical discipline team on assigned projects
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineering personnel
Cookordinate furnace engineering activities with project teams and other engineering disciplines
Support project decision-making through technical recommendations and engineering expertise
Facilitate communication between engineering, procurement, vendors, and project stakeholders
Promote engineering best practices and technical consistency across furnace projects
Act as a subject matter expert for furnace mechanical engineering systems and equipment
Compliance / Operational Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations, engineering codes, and industry standards
Adhere to company quality assurance requirements, policies, and procedures
Maintain engineering documentation and records in accordance with project requirements
Support technical reviews and quality control processes throughout project execution
Ensure furnace designs comply with applicable ASME and API requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an accredited university
Minimum 5–8 years of relevant engineering experience
Experience reviewing engineering specifications
Experience preparing material requisitions
Experience performing technical bid evaluations
Experience reviewing vendor drawings and technical documentation
Knowledge of ASME Codes and applicable API standards, including:
- ASME B31.3
- ASME B31.1
- ASME Section I
- ASME Section VII
- API 530
- API 560
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Experience with olefins pyrolysis furnace engineering
Experience supporting international EPC projects
Professional licensure within the United States
