About the Role
Join a crew of furnace rebuilders to safely refurbish and maintain furnaces and related equipment within the facility. This role involves working individually or with team members to complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the continuous improvement process by making suggestions to supervisors and leads.
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Procedures to maintain material flow to internal and external customers.
- Recognize and control hazards associated with the work and respond appropriately to unexpected safety or environmental situations.
- Identify materials and breakdowns to determine causes and take corrective action.
- Plan and inspect work to ensure quality and safety.
- Perform preventative and repair maintenance tasks on equipment.
- Recommend improvements in operating processes, procedures, and equipment to eliminate waste.
- Maintain a clean and hazard-free work area and assigned equipment.
- Communicate supply needs, repairs, or service requirements to the lead operator or supervisor.
- Report operating irregularities or malfunctions beyond the operator’s control.
- Collaborate with Maintenance and Electrical departments on projects to reduce equipment downtime.
- Handle and dispose of solid and liquid wastes in compliance with established procedures.
- Perform pipefitting, rigging, and minor sheet metal fabrication and repairs.
- Follow PPE and 5S standards.
- Ensure all housekeeping requirements are met.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and use measuring devices for close tolerance work.
- Broad knowledge of furnace materials and rebuild procedures for various plant applications.
- Ability to learn welding, brazing, silver soldering, and cutting techniques for a variety of materials.
- Knowledge of refractory properties and contaminants to prevent process contamination.
- Experience with welding, torching, and fabrication equipment (e.g., press brakes, shears, basic pipe threading).
- Experience with large tow-motors, sandblasting equipment, rigging equipment, and large hoists preferred.
- Experience with electrical systems preferred.
- Broad knowledge of induction, annealing, heat treat, and arc furnace refractories preferred.
- Knowledge of brick laying preferred.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office products and email.
- Demonstrated mechanical ability.
- Good verbal and written communication skills preferred.
- Basic math skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills for customer service preferred.
Export Compliance
The selected candidate must qualify for export compliance eligibility to access U.S. controlled technology under ITAR or EAR regulations. Eligibility includes being a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, refugee, or national of a non-prohibited country, or obtaining an export license.
