Furnace Builder
Location: Plymouth, MI facility
About the role
In this role, you will melt metal alloys using steel shell induction furnaces. These furnaces are lined with a ceramic crucible which sustains damage over time. When enough damage occurs, the furnace is cooled down and sent to the Furnace Builder. The role involves removing the old lining and replacing it by hand. Since molten metal is inherently dangerous, it is critical that new furnace linings are built properly. In addition to furnace linings, you will inspect the overall condition of each furnace. Most repairs are handled by the Furnace Builder, but complex issues may be escalated to Plant Maintenance. Once inspections and lining replacements are complete, the furnaces are placed in a large oven to dry out.
