Responsibilities
- Provide laboratory support for the Funeral Services Department, including preparing materials for all laboratory activities.
- Maintain and ensure functionality of laboratory equipment, making minor adjustments as required.
- Work with biohazardous materials and prepare solutions.
- Maintain all laboratory safety procedures and report violations to the Director.
- Develop and maintain OSHA Standards.
- Communicate effectively with families, coroners, medical professionals, and veterinary personnel.
- Responsible for filing death certificates.
- Perform embalming and restorative art.
- Operate cremation equipment.
- Work within a flexible teaching schedule (day, evening, weekend) and at varied sites (on-campus, off-campus).
- Travel to local, state, and national meetings, pending funding.
- Lift, move, and transport anatomical donors and animals.
Requirements
- Associate degree in a related field plus 3 years of technical work experience in a laboratory setting within a funeral home/crematory.
- Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer.
- Knowledge of laboratory facilities, methods, equipment, and materials.
- Skilled in utilizing cremation equipment.
- Experience in embalming and restorative art.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Mortuary Science.
- Funeral Director and Licensed Embalmer in the state of South Carolina or ability to obtain licensure within 3 months of employment.
- Willingness to relocate to the Piedmont Technical College service area within 3 months of employment.
Schedule
Flexible teaching schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends. Some travel may be required.
