About the role

To provide laboratory support for the Funeral Services Department at Piedmont Technical College, which requires specific technical skills in preparing materials for all laboratory activities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and ensure the functionality of laboratory equipment, making minor adjustments as required.
  • Work with biohazardous materials, including preparing solutions.
  • Maintain all laboratory safety procedures and report violations to the Director.
  • Maintain and develop OSHA Standards.
  • Meet with families and be responsible for filing death certificates.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Coroners, Medical professionals, and Veterinary personnel.
  • Perform embalming and restorative art tasks.
  • Work within a flexible teaching schedule (day, evening, weekend) and at varied sites (on-campus, off-campus).
  • Travel may be required to local, state, and national meetings, pending funding.
  • Lift, move, and transport anatomical donors and animals as needed.

Requirements

  • An associate degree.
  • At least three years of technical work experience in a related laboratory setting, preferably in a funeral home/crematory setting.
  • Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer.
  • Knowledge of laboratory facilities, methods, equipment, and materials.
  • Skilled in utilizing cremation equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Experience in embalming and restorative art.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least an associate degree in Mortuary Science.
  • Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in the state of South Carolina or within 3 months of employment.
  • Willingness to relocate to the Piedmont Technical College service area within 3 months of employment.
