The SBIR/STTR programs are U.S. Government initiatives aimed at assisting small businesses in conducting Research and Development (R&D). The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) SBIR/STTR programs offer grant opportunities to small businesses focusing on DOE mission-related R&D. These grants support the development and commercialization of innovative ideas.

Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs)

• DOE’s Office of SBIR/STTR Programs collaborates with 13 program offices to select research topics based on their mission needs.
• Each year, approximately 400 Phase I and 200 Phase II awards are made, totaling over $300 million in funding.
• More than 60 technical topics and 250 subtopics cover various areas such as Energy Production, Energy Use, Fundamental Energy Sciences, Environmental Management, and Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation.
