About the role

Hagerty is a company dedicated to the enjoyment and preservation of cars. We're looking for a Fullstack Software Engineer to join the Member Engagement team. Your responsibilities will involve developing, maintaining, and supporting web and mobile applications that enhance the member experience.

Responsibilities

  • Craft solutions aligned with business objectives, architectural intent, system interactions, and operational requirements.
  • Apply established patterns, standards, and integration approaches to deliver reliable solutions for new use cases.
  • Write clean, readable, maintainable code and incorporate feedback from code reviews.
  • Participate in the code review process, reviewing peers' code for correctness, readability, and adherence to team standards.
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  • Own and support features, modules, and products by thoroughly explaining and demonstrating how they fit into the larger ecosystem, contributing to feature refinement, defining key metrics, and monitoring product health.
  • Participate in on-call support for production services.
  • Deepen technical expertise by making thoughtful recommendations to improve code structure, integration patterns, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Contribute to and engage in a collaborative environment by being an active participant in team activities, helping less experienced engineers, and coaching them on tools, techniques, and patterns.

Requirements

  • Proven experience contributing as an engineer on a large-scale, complex customer-facing system, including initial development, major feature delivery, and ongoing production support.
  • Comfortable working and actively participating within smaller (5-10 people) technical groups.
  • Experience with web application fundamentals, including browser developer tools, the full HTTP request lifecycle, and performance diagnostics tooling.
  • Interest or prior experience with mobile development (Flutter/Dart).
  • Comfortable working within established CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
  • Eager to deeply learn and incorporate improvements in technologies and patterns such as: Languages & Runtime, Frontend Frameworks & Tooling, APIs & Integration Patterns, Security, Performance & Reliability, Infrastructure, Networking Fundamentals, Deployment.

Qualifications

  • Naturally curious about how things connect, how a frontend decision impacts infrastructure, or how adopting a new framework broadens what your team can build.
  • Able to clearly communicate thoughts and actively listen to and integrate the thoughts and comments of others.

Skills

  • Languages & Runtime: JavaScript / TypeScript, CSS/SCSS, Terraform, Node.js
  • Frontend Frameworks & Tooling: NextJS, React, Playwright, React Testing Library, Jest/Vitest
  • APIs & Integration Patterns: REST, GraphQL
  • Security: TLS, encryption in transit and at rest, secure coding, secret management
  • Performance & Reliability: load testing, profiling, monitoring, alerting, logging, and tracing
  • Infrastructure: cloud platforms, configuration management, progressive deployment strategies, and microservices
  • Networking Fundamentals: HTTP, firewalls, load balancers
  • Deployment: containers, cloud providers, configuration management, canary deployments

Schedule

The position is open to U.S. remote work. Team members who reside within 20 miles of the Traverse City headquarters will follow a hybrid schedule, working from the office three days per week. May require travel for quarterly events.
