About The Role
We're building an AI-powered legal tech platform and need a backend-focused fullstack developer who treats AI tools as a core part of how they build — not an afterthought. You'll own features end-to-end across secure client portals and enterprise-grade B2B systems, from architecture to deployment. This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role on a small team where your decisions directly shape the product.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build scalable backend architectures for client and lawyer portals
- Implement AI-powered workflows including document generation, case evaluation, and conversational interfaces
- Build and maintain secure APIs in Node.js/TypeScript for internal and client-facing applications
- Ensure systems meet compliance requirements for legal documents, client data, and financial transactions
- Translate complex legal workflows into intuitive digital experiences alongside stakeholders
- Own features from conception through deployment with measurable impact on user outcomes
Must-haves
- 7+ years shipping fullstack TypeScript in production (React/Next.js and Node.js)
- Proven ability to deliver complete features end-to-end with measurable business outcomes
- Strong PostgreSQL or relational database design skills
- Experience building production APIs with proper error handling, monitoring, and documentation
- Daily use of AI coding tools for the majority of your development work
- Hands-on cloud platform experience (GCP preferred; AWS or Azure acceptable)
- Based in NYC and able to work in-office
Nice-to-haves
- Experience at a high-hiring-bar tech company or VC-backed startup (Seed–Series C)
- Shipped a production AI feature: RAG, LLM integration, agents, embeddings, or semantic search
- Currently working at a startup or growth-stage company under 1,000 employees
This is for you if...
- You already use AI tools to move faster and architect better, not just autocomplete
- You want autonomy over technical decisions on a product that directly affects real users
- You thrive with minimal process and want your work to matter from day one
This is not for you if...
- You prefer large teams, established playbooks, and clearly scoped tickets
- AI tools are occasional productivity helpers, not central to how you build
- You're looking to specialize in one layer of the stack rather than own full features
