Full Time Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant
About the role
Northwell Health Department of Thoracic Surgery is seeking a board‑certified full‑time Thoracic Surgical Physician Assistant to join its group at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. This is a hospital‑based, rounding position focused on the care and management of thoracic surgery patients.
Vassar Brothers Medical Center is a 365‑bed tertiary care hospital with a new 696,000 sq ft inpatient pavilion, 264 private medical/surgical rooms, and 30 critical care rooms. The facility is located on the banks of the Hudson River in the Hudson Valley, offering a high quality of life with outdoor recreation, cultural amenities, excellent schools, and easy commuter access to New York City.
Responsibilities
- Round on hospitalized thoracic surgery patients.
- Perform daily clinical assessments and review laboratory and diagnostic results.
- Develop and implement care plans in collaboration with the thoracic surgery team.
- Assist with discharge planning and coordination of care.
- Work collaboratively with thoracic surgeons, nursing staff, and other multidisciplinary team members to provide high‑quality postoperative and inpatient care.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- NCCPA certification.
- Strong clinical assessment, inpatient care, and patient management skills.
- At least one year of thoracic surgery, surgical, or inpatient experience preferred.

Schedule
- Full‑time, 10‑hour weekday shifts, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Weekend call coverage from home approximately once per month.
Pay
Salary range: $61.83‑$80 per hour.
Working Conditions
- Significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity required.
- Some occupational risk with medium to heavy physical effort; may exert up to 35 lb force.
- Physical environment includes exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and human waste.
