Full time Special Education Teacher
About the role
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at River Academy of Excellence. The school is a small, private institution located in the Fox Chapel area of Pittsburgh, PA. We are looking for candidates with experience working with students who have complex educational needs. The school accepts students from kindergarten to 8th grade.
Responsibilities
- Run a classroom up to 8 students
- Create lesson plans
- Support paraprofessionals within the classroom
- Collaborate with behavior support
- Communicate with district and parents
Requirements
- A degree in Special Education
- Expert knowledge in IEP writing and Pennsylvania special education law
- Strong administrative skills
- Experience with behavioral supports
- Experience in childcare or preschool settings preferred
- Familiarity with childhood development principles and practices
- Strong communication skills
- Previous experience working in a classroom setting highly desirable
- Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and growth
