Full Time Retail Associate

Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. We seek applicants who love people, serve as role models, and want to spread the good news. This is a nicotine-free ministry, and all staff members participate in prayer, Bible study, and a lifestyle of worship integrated into daily job functions.

Responsibilities

Cashiering

• Greet customers with friendly service and answer questions (e.g., store hours, pricing, policies).
• Process payments via cash, credit card, or automatic debit, and verify vouchers from shelter residents.
• Organize, restock, and arrange merchandise displays throughout the store.
• Maintain register supplies (bags, pens, tape, etc.) and ensure accurate change availability.
• Input customer information into the database and express Christian views of the ministry, including writing scriptures on the front board.
• Issue receipts, credits, or exchanges (with manager approval) to resolve customer issues.
• Maintain a clean and orderly checkout area and provide excellent customer service.
• Assist in stocking and rotating merchandise.
• Serve as a positive role model for employees, shelter participants, and customers, including guests completing Christian service hours or job training.

Warehouse/Receiving/Donation Attendant

• Assist donors with unloading donations and provide receipts while inputting donor information into the computer.
• Operate a forklift for loading and unloading merchandise.
• Sort, clean, organize, and prepare donations for pricing and distribution to the sales floor.
• Discard unsalable items and manage space for separated merchandise.
• Maintain a neat and clean work area and assist other attendants as needed.
• Dispose of discarded items in the compactor promptly to ensure continued use.
• Load and unload donations or purchased merchandise for customers on the sales floor.
• Communicate donation policies and procedures professionally to internal and external customers.
• Attend training and meetings as scheduled by management.
• Maintain a safe working environment.
• Serve as a role model and teacher to guests completing Christian service hours or job training.

Driver Duties

• Become and maintain authorized driver status.
• Plan and complete efficient delivery/pickup routes.
• Load and unload delivery vehicles with care.
• Drive safely and use navigation tools.

Requirements

• Highly ethical with the ability to make smart, timely decisions.
• Ability to follow instructions without constant supervision.
• Professional and courteous demeanor at all times.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a desire to serve Him.
• Consistent witness for Jesus Christ and spiritual maturity aligned with evangelical biblical standards.
• Compassion for the homeless and hurting, with a passion for life transformation in an urban setting.
• Courteous, Christ-like manner with internal and external partners.
• Flexible, cooperative spirit and a drug- and nicotine-free lifestyle.

Qualifications

• Preferred: retail and customer service experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Forklift certification (training available).
• Valid driver’s license preferred; clean driving record.

Working Conditions

• Work predominately requires standing.
• Equipment/tools used: computer, register, pricing gun, phone, mission vehicle, forklift.

Pay

$16 USD per hour.
