Full Time Retail Associate
Full-time position in Lubbock, TX with consistent hours and opportunities for growth into store leadership.
About the Role
This is a full-time, year-round position designed for someone seeking steady work and career growth. The role requires open weekday daytime availability in addition to weekends and event days, making it ideal as a primary job. Several current store managers and key holders began as full-time associates, demonstrating clear paths for advancement.
At Red Raider Outfitter, full-time associates help set the tone for the store. You’ll be on the floor 40 hours a week, and newer team members will learn by observing your work. This role includes real responsibility and is built to be a long-term career opportunity.
Every guest is greeted—out loud, every time. While this may feel uncomfortable at first, most team members adapt quickly with coaching. This is a core part of the job and the store’s culture.
About Red Raider Outfitter
Since 1975, we’ve been Lubbock’s home for Texas Tech gear. We created the original Wreck ’Em Tech game day shirt in the early ’90s, a tradition now in its 27th edition. For many guests, visiting our store is part of the Texas Tech experience—whether it’s a parent buying their freshman’s first shirt, an alum returning for homecoming, or a family attending their first game at The Jones. Our brand promise is to deliver superior Texas Tech products with game day spirit every day.
Responsibilities
- Greet every guest using our standard greeting and engage in genuine conversations.
- Learn guests’ stories and walk them through the store rather than pointing.
- Sell with substance by learning product details—names, fits, fabrics, shrinkage—to recommend with confidence.
- Maintain a show-ready floor: fold, size, recover, replenish, and restock between guests.
- Stay present with guests; phones remain in the designated box during shifts.
- Mentor newer team members by modeling pace, energy, and greeting standards.
- Run register transactions, returns, exchanges, and holds accurately.
- Take ownership of tasks without waiting to be asked—do the right thing even when no one is watching.
- Accept and apply coaching in the moment.
- Work key event days, including game weekends, move-in, graduation, and holidays.
Onstage Standard
When on the sales floor, you are "onstage." This means:
- Greeting guests, recovering product, helping teammates, and staying visible and available.
- Avoiding phone use, leaning on counters, staying in the back, or waiting for guests to approach first.
These standards are reviewed during your first three days of training and upheld consistently, including when leadership is not present.
Requirements
- Dependability: Show up on time, ready to work. Full-time means full-time.
- Willingness to start conversations: Greeting guests and engaging in genuine conversations is part of the job, not a personality requirement.
- Accountability: Own your mistakes and grow from them.
- Maintain steady energy across full shifts, including quieter hours and post-event days.
- Physical readiness to stand, walk, fold, lift, and move merchandise throughout your shift.
- Direct, professional communication with teammates and leadership.
- Reliable transportation to your assigned store.
- Open weekday daytime availability (Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–7:00 or 8:00 PM) in addition to weekends and event days.
Retail experience is helpful but not required. We provide training on product knowledge, register operations, sizing, and merchandising. What we cannot teach—dependability, willingness, and integrity—are essential.
Texas Tech enthusiasm is a plus, but the ability to turn that enthusiasm into great guest service is the real skill.
Availability Requirements
This role requires open weekday daytime availability (Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–7:00 or 8:00 PM) in addition to weekends and event days. This is a primary-job position, not supplemental or flexible around a class schedule. You may be scheduled for:
- Weekday daytime, evening, and weekend shifts
- Opening and closing shifts
- Home football weekends (Friday–Sunday)
- Move-in weekend, graduation, tax-free weekend
- Extended holiday hours through December
These are blackout dates—our busiest and most important days of the year. Time off is not available during these periods. If you have conflicts with weekday daytime hours or home football weekends, disclose them during the interview.
Your First 30 Days
The first 30 days serve as an evaluation period. We look for:
- Reliability: Showing up on time, prepared.
- Willingness: Greeting guests even before feeling fully ready.
- Coachability: Taking feedback and applying it immediately.
- Urgency: Moving with purpose, including on slow days.
- Integrity: Upholding standards even when leadership is not present.
- Ownership: Noticing and addressing what needs to be done.
We do not expect perfection on day one but do expect effort, honesty, and visible growth within the first week. If the role is not the right fit, we will communicate this early and honestly.
Pay
$15.00 – $22.00 per hour, based on experience. Candidates with prior retail, customer service, or supervisory experience typically start in the upper half of the range.
Schedule
Consistent full-time hours (35–40 per week), year-round.
Benefits
- Paid time off
- Employee merchandise discount: 3 items at 20% off to start, increasing to 25% off after 90 hours worked
- Game day shirts and designated apparel when provided
- Training on product knowledge, selling techniques, and guest hospitality
Growth
We promote from within. Advancement is based on performance—reliability, guest engagement, coaching ability, and integrity—rather than time served. Several current store managers and key holders started as full-time associates. While we do not promise titles on a timeline, we provide honest feedback on your standing and what it takes to reach the next level.
Before You Apply
We’re looking for someone who wants steady, full-time work—someone who enjoys talking with people, follows through on commitments, and takes pride in doing things well. The ideal candidate is the kind of person newer team members learn from simply by observing. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
