Full Time Production Manager

About the Role

This position advises, plans, manages, and evaluates all lighting, video, audio, and stage production needs for facility events. Responsibilities include knowledge of production technical equipment, planning and design methods, set-up techniques (including change outs, electrical hookups, rigging, staff placement, sound, and lighting applications), equipment inventory, maintenance, and planning for additional equipment. Work hours may exceed 40 hours per week and include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all technical areas of the facility.
  • Coordinate client needs and review event riders.
  • Budget for maintenance and capital improvement projects (CIP).
  • Employ, train, schedule, and oversee the performance of technical crews and part-time staff.
  • Manage and assist with the operation of technical equipment for events.
  • Maintain inventory control, upkeep, and storage areas.
  • Review, adjust, and approve all technical staff payroll hours.
  • Maintain or schedule maintenance for all technical equipment.
  • Compile and maintain records for payroll, personnel scheduling, and event scheduling.
  • Anticipate equipment and other needs for individual events.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise all technical services personnel, stagehands, and assigned workers.
  • Train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in technical theatre or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of procedures and requirements in the entertainment business to ensure good relationships with promoters and performers.
  • Basic knowledge of business management practices and procedures.
  • Experience and proficiency in a computer network environment using Microsoft Office programs, especially Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  • Current valid driver’s license.
  • Accessible phone number for business contact purposes.

Skills

  • Language Skills: Ability to communicate effectively orally and electronically. Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to speak and understand English.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply math concepts using Excel spreadsheets, calculators, or cash registers.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to analyze and break down material into components, recognize relationships, and make decisions based on logical reasoning and prioritization.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
  • Noise level is usually moderate but can be loud to extremely loud during events.
