Position Overview
Cedar Lane Elementary School Position Overview Under direction of the Building Principal, the Paraprofessional assists teachers by performing a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well-being. Works individually and in small groups to reinforce instruction, monitor performance, and support learning. This position also performs a variety of instructional and classroom management supports, as well as related clerical tasks to support teachers and other professional staff in all classrooms or learning environments.
Training
Appoquinimink School District may require you to be trained in Safety-Care or a similar competency-based crisis prevention intervention training program as a condition of your continued employment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
- Assists in providing a safe and encouraging learning environment to meet the students' needs, interests, and abilities.
- Demonstrates professionalism, maintain confidentiality, accept constructive feedback and maintain an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
- Supports the classroom teacher in instruction by engaging in planning, following plans outlined by the teacher, and working with individual students/small groups.
- Supports the classroom teacher in assessment by monitoring independent work, collecting academic/behavioral data, and assisting in keeping accurate/current record of student progress.
- Supports the classroom teacher in organization by performing clerical duties, assisting in gathering/developing instructional materials, and maintaining an organized work environment.
- Demonstrates characteristics of an effective team member by engaging in problem solving, and exhibiting flexibility, and cooperation.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
- Works continuously toward self-improvement through the active pursuit of professional development activities.
- Implements School Board and school-based policies and procedures in order to uphold school regulations.
- Assumes other responsibilities and perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Educational Resources/Executive Director of Teaching and Learning
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma and passing ParaPro scores or a minimum of 60 college credits.
- State of Delaware Paraeducator Permit required.
- Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, administrators, and parents.
- Experience in working with students of varying abilities.
- Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills.
- Knowledge of IDEA, 504 and IEP's.
Physical Requirements
- This position may require frequent bending, walking, running, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.
- Additional demands may require moving wheelchairs, assisting with toileting, feeding and other daily living activities.
- Able to kneel and work on the floor with students, able to walk for long periods.
- Able to physically assist students to engage in activities such as walking or eating.
- Able to assist with physically aggressive behaviors.
Evaluation
Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions set forth in the negotiated contract between the Appoquinimink School District Board of Education and the Appoquinimink Educational Support Professionals Association, Affiliate of DSEA/NEA.
