Full-Time Paraprofessional - Specialized Programs - RISE-26-27SY- Multiple Positions
About the role
The Paraprofessional assists teachers by performing a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well-being. They work individually and in small groups to reinforce instruction, monitor performance, and support learning. This position also supports classroom teachers in instructional and classroom management tasks, as well as related clerical duties.
Responsibilities
- Provides a safe and encouraging learning environment to meet students' needs, interests, and abilities.
- Demonstrates professionalism, maintains confidentiality, accepts constructive feedback, and fosters an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
- Engages in planning, follows plans outlined by the teacher, and works with individual students/small groups.
- Makes assessments by monitoring independent work, collecting academic/behavioral data, and assisting in keeping accurate/current records of student progress.
- Supports organization by performing clerical duties, assisting in gathering/developing instructional materials, and maintaining an organized work environment.
- Demonstrates characteristics of an effective team member by engaging in problem-solving, exhibiting flexibility, and cooperating.
- Implements School Board and school-based policies and procedures to uphold school regulations.
- Assumes other responsibilities and performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Educational Resources/Executive Director of Teaching and Learning.
Requirements
- High School diploma and passing ParaPro scores or a minimum of 60 college credits.
- A State of Delaware Paraeducator Permit required.
- Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, administrators, and parents.
- Experience in working with students of varying abilities.
- Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills.
- Knowledge of IDEA, 504 and IEP's.
Qualifications
- Criminal background check and Tuberculin testing required.
- Frequent bending, walking, running, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.
- Physical assistance with self-care plans such as toileting, feeding, personal hygiene, dressing, and other daily living activities; physically assist students to engage in activities such as walking or eating; able to kneel and work on the floor with students; able to walk for long periods; assistance with physically aggressive behaviors required.
Physical Requirements
- This position may require frequent bending, walking, running, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.
- Additional demands may require moving wheelchairs, assisting with toileting, feeding and other daily living activities.
- Assist with self-care plans such as toileting, feeding, personal hygiene, dressing and other daily living activities; physically assist students to engage in activities such as walking or eating, able to kneel and work on the floor with students, able to walk for long periods. Assistance with physically aggressive behaviors required.
Compliance
Failure to meet or maintain any of the licensing or certification minimum qualifications listed further below in this job posting may result in the withdrawal of the job offer prior to employment or termination of employment if already hired. Training
Appoquinimink School District may require you to be trained in Safety-Care or a similar competency-based crisis prevention intervention training program as a condition of your continued employment.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.
Pre-employment Requirements
- Criminal background check and Tuberculin testing required.
- Documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A. required.
- Completion of I-9 form required.
- Completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry required.
