Job Summary
The School District of Philadelphia seeks leaders passionate about supporting exceptional students through job training programs. This position assists in developing and implementing such programs, focusing on students in Life Skills Support and Autistic Support Programs. Essential functions include assessing students' skills, collaborating with external agencies, and facilitating student transitions to employment.
Essential Functions
- Assesses students’ interests and interpersonal and functional skills levels.
- Determines appropriate settings and methodologies for job-related skills training.
- Establishes training plans based on Individual Education Plan goals and objectives.
- Collaborates with outside placement/employment agency staff, school staff, students, parents, employers, and others to facilitate transition.
- Consults with on-site supervisors and school staff to ensure practical and relevant training.
- Synthesizes and provides confidential student-specific information to agencies involved in the transition process.
- Promotes establishment of training and career exploration sites for students.
- Affirms students for community site-based training, monitors training sites, and facilitates necessary roster adjustments.
- Participates on a multi-disciplinary team to plan and develop comprehensive educational programs for students.
- Writes Individual Education Plans for an assigned caseload, ensuring completeness and current status.
- Maintains necessary records and submits statistical reports as required.
- Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- One year of full-time, paid, professional teaching experience working with students with moderate or severe disabilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent growth and development with an emphasis on learning disabilities and multiple disabling conditions.
- Current methodologies for providing job-related skills training for exceptional students.
- Knowledge of the local job market and employment needs.
- Understanding of community organizations and businesses as potential training and career exploration sites.
- Knowledge of existing post-graduate training/employment opportunities for exceptional students and application procedures.
- Understanding of the availability of post-graduate services for exceptional students and referral procedures.
- Authentic assessment principles.
- Current etiology, theories, and research regarding learning disabilities and multiple disabling conditions.
- Ability to assess students for community site-based training.
- Train school staff in practices designed to promote successful student transition.
- Monitor training sites to ensure state-of-the-art training is provided.
- Absorb students in completing applications, preparing resumes, and other employment-related activities.
- Maintain necessary records, compile statistical information, and prepare reports.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated knowledge of both English and the specified world language, including history and culture.
- Knowledge of the contents, materials, methodologies, and practices utilized within bilingual education for exceptional students.
- Demonstrated ability to fluently speak, read, and write both English and the specified world language.
