About the role
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District seeks Full-Time Firefighter-Paramedics to join their team. Located in northeastern McHenry County, the district covers 56 square miles and responds to over 8,100 emergency calls annually.
Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency calls both on assigned shifts and off-duty as required.
- Work collaboratively with other firefighters, lieutenants, and battalion chief to ensure efficient response and management of emergencies.
- Participate in training programs and drills to maintain proficiency in firefighting and paramedic skills.
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism both on and off duty, setting a positive example for others.
- Contribute to the overall safety and well-being of the community through proactive risk management and emergency preparedness.
Requirements
- Between the ages of 21 and 35 as of August 3, 2026, with age 35 potentially eligible with waiver.
- Legal resident of the United States of America.
- Valid State Driver's License.
- Ability to read, speak, and write in English.
- Meet knowledge, health, and physical qualifications established by the District.
- Successfully complete all components of the hiring process.
- Pass a background investigation, pre-employment medical exam, and drug test.
- Have OSFM Fire Apparatus Engineer (FAE) within 2 years of Paramedic licensure.
- Hold IDPH Paramedic license in the Western Lake/McHenry EMS system within 2 years of hire.
- Exhibit good moral character, temperate personal habits, and demonstrate an industrious work ethic.
- Submit a completed application and all requested documentation by August 3, 2026.
- Upload a valid CPAT card with ladder climb dated within 1 year of application date.
- Complete the NTN Fire Team written exam by August 1, 2026.
Qualifications
- Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter.
- Illinois Department of Public Health EMT-Basic License.
- Successfully pass the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) including optional ladder climb within one year of application date.
