Full-Time Faculty: Sports Communications
About the role
The School of Communications at Quinnipiac University invites applications for an open-rank, full-time faculty member in Sports Communications. The position will begin in Spring 2027 or Fall 2027.
About The Sports Communication Program
The Sports Communications Program will bring together the different disciplines within the School of Communications and capitalize on how each intersects with sports. From documentary filmmaking to audience engagement, from social media reach to marketing integrations, from economic impact to cultural significance, from media/data analytics to all forms of storytelling, the Sports Communications Program will prepare students for a host of careers revolving in and around sports.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a master's degree in Communications, Media, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media or Sports Management is required.
- An earned doctoral degree in Communications, Media, Journalism, Sports Journalism, or a related field from an appropriately accredited College or University is a plus.
- At least six years of significant professional experience in sports journalism, media content creation for television, broadcast, streaming or sports data analytics -- or a combination thereof.
- Previous teaching experience or supervision of students is preferred.
- Knowledge of analytics is required.
- Considerable high-level connections in the Sports Media and Journalism industries to facilitate new partnerships, internships, and/or practicums as well as career-related programming for students.
- Comfort with instructional technology and/or educational platforms is required.
- Commitment to contribute to the excellence of the academic community.
Skills
- A passion for, and ability to teach in, Quinnipiac's new Sports Communications Program as well as various journalism, public relations, advertising, film, graphic design, media studies, media production, social media, immersive media and analytics courses, depending on background and expertise.
- Ability to teach and create forward-thinking courses in media/data analytics, broadcast media, video content creation, audio/podcasting and journalism, as well as in the candidate's area of interest/expertise.
- The ability to bring high-profile guest speakers to campus as well as organize larger, university-wide events such as panel discussions, symposiums and more. Additionally, the successful candidate should have contacts with whom to consult to help keep curriculum forward facing and industry relevant.
- The ability to engage with student media leaders and cross-campus partners, such as the athletics department, will be expected and encouraged.
