Full-Time Custodian

About the role

Legacy Charter School is seeking a dependable full-time Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in our facilities. The Custodian is responsible for the overall cleanliness and upkeep of the building, both inside and out. The ideal candidate is hardworking, detail-oriented, and takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Previous custodial or building maintenance experience is preferred, along with the ability to perform physical tasks and work independently.

Location: Chicago, Illinois 60623. Classification: Full-Time. School Year: 2026–2027.

Responsibilities

• Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture, and dusting surfaces
• Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets
• Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks, and showers, and restock disposables (e.g., soap)
• Wipe mirrors and windows and maintain outer premises by cleaning entrances, trash pick-up, etc.
• Report damages to the engineer and assist where needed
• Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting up the alarm
• Undertake other occasional custodial and janitorial tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs, etc.)

Requirements

• Previous custodial/janitorial experience is required for this position
• Knowledge of the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
• Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
• Attention to detail and conscientiousness
• Very good physical condition and strength
• High school diploma is preferred but not required

Pay

Salary Range: $19 – $21 per hour. Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience.
