Full Stack Software Engineer- Foundry
About the role
Remote position, with preference for the Washington DC metro area. Requires an active Secret security clearance (interim OK), US citizenship, and 0‑10% travel. The Department of War is fielding AI‑enabled decision support at unprecedented speed, and Maven Smart System is at the center. Sherpa 6 builds mission‑critical software that puts operational data in the hands of users from the Pentagon to the tactical edge, running on 100,000+ fielded endpoints. As a Full Stack Foundry Engineer you will own a greenfield application that works alongside the Maven Smart System ecosystem backed by Palantir’s Foundry, shaping architecture from your first commit, with weekly releases and direct user feedback.
Responsibilities
- Own technical direction, estimation, and on‑time feature delivery.
- Implement scalable, secure, and observable system architectures (APIs, services, data models, caching, integrations).
- Build high‑quality front‑end experiences in React, and robust back‑end services in Foundry using Ontology, Functions, and Datasets.
- Model schemas via Ontology to ensure optimal querying and performance speed.
- Code and test software based on loose customer requirements and minimal user interface designs.
- Apply sound software engineering principles to ensure code is modifiable, efficient, reliable, understandable, and fault tolerant.
Requirements
- Active Secret security clearance (interim OK).
- Prior hands‑on Palantir Foundry development experience — built applications, data pipelines, or ontology‑backed workflows in Foundry (Ontology design, Workshop/Slate apps, Foundry Functions (TypeScript), ideally Ontology SDK (OSDK) for custom React apps).
- Experience with Maven Smart System, AIP, or Gotham in a defense or intelligence context strongly preferred.
- 6–10+ years of professional software engineering.
- BS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience with asynchronous programming, observables, and data structuring.
- Node.js/TypeScript building REST APIs and solid understanding of concurrency, async patterns, and API design.
- Demonstrated experience with application state management strategies.
- Solid understanding of HTML and CSS, including responsive design principles, CSS preprocessors, and knowledge of UI frameworks.
- Developing full stack web applications following design team specifications.
- Familiarity with front‑end and back‑end build tools and package managers.
- Strong team player who thrives in a highly collaborative, cross‑functional environment with a growth mindset.
- Experience with development processes: source control, defect tracking, collaborative tools; code review a plus.
