What are we looking for?
We're looking for a talented software engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, learning continuously, and building products that make a meaningful difference. This role is ideal for someone who has delivered multiple challenging projects, takes pride in writing thoughtful, maintainable code, and enjoys both mentoring and learning from teammates. You'll join an engineering culture that values ownership, curiosity, collaboration, and sound technical judgment.
What will you do?
- Develop end-to-end features from technical design and development through deployment, monitoring, and continued improvement.
- Write clean, secure, readable, maintainable, and scalable code.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and other cross-functional partners.
- Design, integrate, and build internal and external APIs.
- Develop new products and features while improving and modernizing existing systems.
- Create and maintain complex backend services and algorithms.
- Profile, troubleshoot, and optimize new and legacy code.
- Build experiences that work across mobile, tablet, and desktop environments.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, and engineering practices that improve quality, reliability, security, and developer experience.
- Ship thoughtfully and frequently in an agile environment with continuous deployment.
- Care about our product, mission, and long-term success, well beyond checking off development tasks.
- Thoughtfully use approved AI-assisted development tools to reduce repetitive work, explore solutions, and improve productivity while applying your own engineering judgment to architecture, implementation, security, privacy, and code quality.
Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Deep understanding of web development concepts and principles.
- At least one major demonstrable project that includes frontend code, backend code, and a database.
- Ability to design, develop, and launch a web application or substantial feature from start to finish.
- Ability to learn quickly, navigate an established codebase, and build new skills independently.
- A strong sense of ownership and eagerness to build something meaningful.
- Five or more years of professional web development experience in any stack, solving challenging problems and implementing new features from scratch.
- Three or more years of experience with SQL, including relational schema design and complex queries.
- Familiarity with web application, data, and SQL security best practices.
- Comfort working outside the abstractions of a framework and understanding what is happening behind the scenes.
- Experience using Git in a collaborative team environment.
- Sound engineering judgment and a thoughtful approach to modern development tools, including AI assistants, with appropriate attention to security, privacy, and code quality.
Bonus (Helpful, But Not Required)
- Experience working with PHP, Laravel, or the LAMP/LEMP ecosystem.
- Experience with React or Next.js.
- Experience modernizing established applications or incrementally replacing legacy systems.
- Experience working in a startup, growth-stage company, or other fast-moving environment.
- Experience building products in health care, mental health, or another highly regulated or privacy-sensitive field.
- Experience mentoring or supporting the growth of other engineers.
