Chahalo is a rapidly growing modern tea brand bringing the authentic Chinese tea experience to New York City with four locations across Manhattan and Queens. Building their technology function from the ground up, Chahalo bridges the gap between traditional retail and modern digital consumer experiences through custom-built internal and external tools.

About the role

As the first engineering hire at Chahalo, you will lead the development of the company’s digital foundation. You’ll design and build the consumer ordering platform, loyalty programs, and internal operational tools from the ground up. This greenfield role offers total ownership over the technical direction while directly impacting thousands of customers across New York City.

Responsibilities

• Develop consumer-facing applications including a high-performance web ordering platform and a custom customer loyalty program using React and Node.js.
• Architect and maintain the backend infrastructure and database schema using PostgreSQL to support inventory management, store operations, and data analytics.
• Lead the end-to-end delivery of features, from initial technical design and API development to deployment and monitoring in production environments.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of professional experience building and shipping consumer or B2B products end-to-end using TypeScript, React, Node.js, and PostgreSQL.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently in a high-growth startup environment, comfortably handling ambiguity and making high-level architectural decisions without an existing roadmap.
• Strong proficiency in modern web frameworks and tools, with specific experience in Next.js and GraphQL being highly preferred for building scalable consumer interfaces.
