FUL-Maintenance Worker.

Responsibilities

• Interpret work orders, equipment manuals, and installation instructions to safely complete maintenance, equipment operation, and repair projects, and train staff and volunteers in proper safety practices.
• Operate farm tractors, backhoes, mowers, and other types of equipment to construct and maintain refuge facilities.
• Use a variety of hand and power tools including hand saws, drills, planes, routers, power nailers and fasteners, metal shears, power saws, and power sanders and planes to maintain facilities.
• Aid in installation and repair of cabinets, fences, siding, etc.
• Maintain restrooms, roads, parking areas, boat ramps, etc.

Requirements

• Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
• Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Direct Deposit participation required.
• Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Pre-employment and random alcohol/drug testing are required. You will not be appointed if a verified positive test is received.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Class A endorsement.
• Required to wear a uniform and comply with uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Pesticide Applicators License.
• Must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles.
• Must maintain certification on all equipment operated.
• Must serve a 1-year probationary period during which continued employment will be evaluated.
• Residency within the local commuting area (75 miles of Kihei, Hawaii) is required at the time of application; proof of residency must be provided.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

• Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT).
• Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
• Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
• Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
• Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
• Use of measuring instruments.

Physical Demands

• Considerable physical effort is required in the operation and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and attachments.
• Frequent heavy lifting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, climbing, and kneeling in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
• Lifting and carrying parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, and over 50 pounds with assistance.
• Use of jacks, pulleys, dollies, or other lifting devices.
• Work may be performed from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, or high places, and in hard-to-reach areas.
• Frequent arm and leg movements required to operate controls, make repairs, and build items.

Working Conditions

• Work is accomplished both in an office setting (5%) and outdoors (95%).
• Exposure to all weather conditions, running water, fumes, dust, grease, dirt, and moving parts of equipment and machinery.
• Work performed outside in steep, uneven, rocky, and slippery terrain with frequent temperature extremes.
