Job Summary

Estimate costs for construction projects.

About the Role

Essential Functions

  • Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and other documents to develop accurate cost estimates.
  • Quantify and price materials, labor, and equipment for assigned scopes of work.
  • Solicit and analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Develop detailed breakdowns of project costs and prepare formal bid packages and proposals.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to understand project scope and conditions.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure constructability and accuracy of estimates.
  • Maintain and update historical cost data, unit pricing, and productivity metrics.
  • Afford value engineering and cost-saving strategies.
  • Assist in project handoff meetings and support project managers during the transition from estimating to execution.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, pricing changes, and construction methods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Competencies

  • Skilled with Timberline Estimating software or similar.
  • Skilled in On-Screen Take Off or similar software.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically and creatively, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize, work well under stress, meet deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to constant change.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to assist and communicate with staff and clients.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Skilled in mathematical concepts.
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office products (i.e., Excel, Word, & Outlook).
  • Ability to pay attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience in construction estimating.
  • Work experience can be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Proficiency in estimating software platforms.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Experience with Alaska Native Corporations and knowledge of Small Business Administration’s 8(a) program.
  • Experience working within a multiple entity organization.
  • Certified Professional Estimator (CPE).

Physical Qualifications

  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, reach, walk, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
  • Must be able to see to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
