Fuel Handling Resident Engineer

About the role

TerraPower is seeking a highly motivated Fuel Handling Resident Engineer to provide oversight and coordination of equipment supplier Teledyne Brown Engineering on-site in Huntsville, Alabama. The role involves creating and reviewing design solutions for fuel handling equipment, structures, and systems for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor.

Responsibilities

• Oversight of supplier design and delivery of nuclear fuel handling systems and equipment from requirements through final design and delivery of equipment to site.
• Support design, fabrication, construction, and testing of systems and equipment.
• Cookordination and oversight of design and fabrication work by suppliers, including regular on-site support at Teledyne Brown Engineering in Huntsville, AL.
• Develop system and equipment design products such as 3D CAD models, calculations, requirements, system design descriptions, and interface control documents.
• Identify and ensure effective application of design codes such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, ASHRAE, IEEE, NFPA, BTH-1 and regulatory requirements.
• Present designs or participate in design reviews.
• Propose and define testing programs. Provide support and oversight during test execution, evaluation of test results, and reporting of test results.

Qualifications

• Education: B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Nuclear Engineering preferred. Other engineering disciplines may be considered if the candidate has relevant experience. M.S. and Doctorate degrees may be credited for up to two and four years of experience respectively.
• A minimum of ten years of design experience is required.
• Excellent technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
• A successful candidate must possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
• Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III or Section VIII a plus.
