FT – Special Education Instructional Assistant

Provides support to the instructional program in Special Education and Pre-School, assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs and pre-school students in regular or self-contained classrooms. Implements instructional plans, monitors student behavior, and provides information to appropriate school personnel.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
• Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g., adaptive equipment assistance, medication).
• Administers tests, homework, and make-up work (e.g., state testing/assessments) to support teachers in the classroom.
• Assists students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments (e.g., reading stories, listening to students read, reinforcing English lessons, facilitating activities, computer learning programs) to practice and reinforce learning concepts.
• Assists medically fragile or physically disabled students with personal hygiene (e.g., lavatory, clothing, diapering, toileting, washup).
• Communicates with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, and parents to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
• Implements behavioral plans designed by IEP or pre-school teams under the supervision of the assigned teacher.
• Maintains instructional materials and manual/electronic files/records (e.g., student data, assessments, test results) to ensure availability and meet mandated requirements.
• Monitors students in various school environments (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, cafeteria) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
• Provides instruction to students in individual and group activities (e.g., academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills) under the supervision of the assigned teacher to reinforce instructional objectives and IEP plans.
• Responds to emergency situations (e.g., injured students, student conflicts) to resolve immediate safety concerns.
• Submits electronic observations and written anecdotal records to provide necessary information for student learning assessment.

Requirements

• Job-related experience is required.
• Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in a job-related area.
• Equivalency: 60 hours of verifiable college credit from an accredited institution or Para Pro Exam.
• IVP (Identity Verified Print) Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Enrollment in an education program preferred.

Pay

$16.82 per hour for 211 days.
