About the role

Full-time and part-time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) positions available on the NOC shift (10:00 PM – 6:30 AM) at the Central Nebraska Veterans’ Home in Kearney.

Pay

Starting wage as of July 1, 2026: $24.625 – $34.878 per hour.

  • $21.625 – $31.878 base pay
  • $3.00 per hour night-shift differential
  • Additional shift differentials of $1.00 – $1.50 per hour
  • $200 monthly bonus for commutes of 30 miles or more

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality care to maintain members’ quality of life
  • Maintain dignity and confidentiality of members
  • Perform routine nursing duties for elderly members in the Veterans Home
  • Prepare, administer, and document oral and topical medications and treatments
  • Under general supervision of a licensed nurse, provide basic nursing care, administer medications, and apply treatments within the scope of the Nebraska Medication Aide Act, State of Nebraska Nursing Assistant regulations, and Veterans Affairs regulations

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Completed a state-approved 76-hour nurse aide training course and competency evaluation program
  • Listed on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry
  • Successfully pass background checks and pre-employment drug screening
  • Successfully complete the Medication Aide course and obtain placement on the Medication Aide Registry within the first year of employment

Skills & Knowledge

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services
  • Nebraska Medication Aide Act, medication administration, and adverse medication reactions
  • Regulations governing nursing assistants
  • Practices and principles of providing basic nursing assistance
  • Infection control practices
  • HIPAA regulations
  • Abuse and neglect identification and prevention
  • Safety principles
  • Privacy and dignity principles

Skill in:

  • Providing basic nursing assistance and administering medications
  • Developing positive relationships with others

Ability to:

  • Recognize adverse medication reactions and take appropriate action
  • Follow oral and written instructions in exact detail
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and push/pull up to 75 lbs. daily
  • Frequently bend at the waist and neck, twist at the waist, and walk or stand up to 90% of the shift
  • Interact with members and others in a positive manner
  • Be flexible to meet changing job demands
  • Lift, turn, and/or reposition members as needed
