Caregiver NOC SHIFT 10 PM-6:30 AM

OTHR$16.9/hrFull-time

Fair Oaks Estates is a locally owned assisted living and memory care community in Carmichael, serving families across the Sacramento Valley for over 20 years. We provide assisted living and memory care for residents with dementia in our 63-bedroom community. Our caregivers build long-term relationships with residents, understanding their needs and supporting their independence.

About the role

Fair Oaks Estates is hiring a full-time overnight Caregiver (NOC shift) in Carmichael. This role is suited for individuals who are steady, observant, self-directed, and comfortable working with less supervision. You will be responsible for safety checks, assisting residents with overnight needs, managing nighttime wandering and disorientation in memory care, and responding to emergencies. Medications are handled by Med Techs, so your focus will be on direct resident care.

Schedule

The schedule follows a "4 on, 2 off" rotation:

  • Work four consecutive nights (10:00 PM to 6:30 AM), then have two consecutive days off.
  • The cycle repeats continuously, with nights off rotating through the week (e.g., one cycle may be Tuesday/Wednesday off, the next Monday/Tuesday).
  • Weekends off occur regularly but not on a fixed weekly schedule.
  • You’ll work approximately 20 nights per month for full-time hours.
  • Schedules are managed via an app, allowing you to view rotations weeks ahead, pick up open shifts, swap with coworkers, and request time off.
  • Some weekends and holidays are required.

This rotation is designed to provide a consistent sleep rhythm and more frequent breaks compared to traditional schedules.

Pay

  • Starting pay: $16.90 per hour (California minimum wage).
  • Top of range: $17.90 per hour.
  • Overtime paid at time-and-a-half, per California law.
  • Raises are based on performance, experience, and attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Take a full handoff from the evening shift, including resident status and care notes.
  • Perform safety checks and rounds throughout the night.
  • Turn and reposition residents to prevent pressure sores.
  • Answer call lights promptly and assist with overnight toileting and incontinence care.
  • Change soiled linens and clothing discreetly.
  • Redirect and reassure memory care residents who wake disoriented or anxious.
  • Monitor and respond to falls, breathing changes, pain, or other condition changes.
  • Alert Med Techs or Care Managers and escalate per protocol when additional support is needed.
  • Report any changes in a resident’s condition (e.g., weight, mood, falls, skin tears, bruises, or appetite).
  • Monitor oxygen and the call system; complete incident reports as needed.
  • Keep exterior doors secure and ensure community safety overnight.
  • Handle overnight laundry and housekeeping during quiet periods.
  • Prepare supplies and stage the day’s needs for the morning shift.
  • Document in Eldermark before the end of your shift and provide a clear handoff to the AM shift.
  • Escalate emergencies per protocol.

Benefits

  • A predictable rotation (4 on, 2 off) with schedules visible weeks ahead in an app.
  • Control over your schedule via the app: pick up open shifts, swap with coworkers, and request time off.
  • Paid initial training onsite and through accredited providers, covering ADLs, safety, emergency response, dementia care, and hands-on shadowing.
  • Medication Technician training (if needed) on the clock, including required California certification.
  • Paid annual medication in-service and continuing education, including dementia care.
  • Health coverage for regular full-time employees after 90 days.
  • Paid sick leave accrued at one hour for every 30 hours worked, available after 90 days.
  • Paid vacation for regular full-time employees after one year of continuous employment.

Requirements

Required:

  • 18 years or older, authorized to work in the United States.
  • Fingerprint clearance through Community Care Licensing (completed before your first day).
  • Health screening and TB test from a licensed physician (completed before your first day).
  • Valid First Aid card (must be kept current; renews every two years).
  • Scrubs and low-heeled, closed-toe, slip-resistant shoes (supplied by you).
  • Able to assist in transferring residents weighing 100 to 250 pounds and safely turn/reposition residents.
  • Comfortable providing hands-on personal care, including toileting and incontinence care.
  • Able to stay alert and attentive through a full overnight shift.
  • Sound judgment working independently; you’ll make first-response decisions before others are on site.
  • Reliable transportation to Carmichael for late-night starts and early-morning ends.
  • Available to work overnights on a 4-on, 2-off rotation, including some weekends and holidays.

Preferred, Not Required:

  • Previous overnight or night shift experience in any field.
  • Previous caregiving experience, professional or personal.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience with dementia or Alzheimer’s care, especially nighttime wandering and sundowning.
  • Comfort with electronic documentation.

Who Does Well Here

This role is ideal for individuals who:

  • Are genuinely night-oriented and can stay awake, alert, and active through the shift.
  • Are observant and comfortable working with minimal supervision.
  • Stay calm under pressure, especially during emergencies at 3 AM.
  • Can de-escalate situations with residents who are frightened or confused.
  • Have a natural inclination for caregiving, such as being the person their family turns to for care.
