About the role
The Mental Health Technician (MHT) role is to function as a member of the nursing staff to facilitate quality patient care. The MHT supports the licensed nursing staff to ensure the needs of the patients are met by performing routinely assigned tasks and carrying out patient care activities within the scope of the MHT’s training and experience.
Responsibilities
- Supports the licensed nursing staff to ensure the needs of the patients are met by performing routinely assigned tasks and carrying out patient care activities within the scope of the MHT’s training and experience.
- Provides direct patient care to assigned patients ensuring that the patients activities of daily living are met.
- Assist with providing a therapeutic milieu and group assignments as directed.
- Utilizes a basic knowledge of psychiatric nursing skills and communicate the emotional, behavior, and psychiatric manifestation of the patient’s psychiatric condition to the licensed nursing staff.
- Ensures a safe environment through diligent observation of the physical environment as well as the patient’s status.
- Communicate effectively identified findings observed with the patients to the licensed nursing staff.
- Aid the licensed staff with basic clerical duties when indicated.
- Maintain a safe and professional standard for patient care according to facility mission, policy and procedure, and in accordance with all external regulatory and credentialing bodies.
- Available to families for communication between the families, patients, and licensed nursing staff.
- Manage the therapeutic environment by utilizing knowledge of psychiatric condition and understanding of supportive care.
- Display an understanding of therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques when required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required. Must have a current CPR certification and a valid State of Florida MHT license.
