Ft. Lauderdale, FL - Avionics Technician

About the role

Performs inspection, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, removal and replacement of aircraft instrument and avionics components and systems using various hand tools and test equipment to meet manufacturer's specifications, FAR's, industry standards, and Repair Station General Operating Manual (RSGOM) in a safe and organized work area. This position may also serve as a Qualified Inspector (QI), completes accurate and timely documentation, and communicates with customers regarding aircraft technical issues.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots, repairs, tests, removes, and replaces avionics and instrument wiring and systems installed in various airframes using hand tools, test equipment, technical documents, and reference materials.
• Orders necessary parts to complete the job.
• Inspects components and aircraft systems as a Qualified Inspector (QI) as needed.
• Documents work completed on work orders and properly records removal and installation of aircraft parts and components according to approved data and procedures.
• Assists bench technicians in resolving discrepancies in avionics and instrument components and systems removed from aircraft.
• Provides on-the-job training (OJT) to less experienced technicians to ensure development and accuracy.
• Accompanies flight crews to perform in-flight troubleshooting, adjustments, and preflight evaluations of avionics and instrument systems.
• Communicates professionally with internal and external customers to educate and answer questions regarding aircraft technical functions.
• Maintains and cleans line maintenance test equipment and work area.
• Operates ground support equipment as necessary.
• Attends factory and company technical classes to increase technical skills and proficiency.
• Maintains a technical training log.
• Available to provide continued service and act as a point of contact for customers outside scheduled work hours.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Eligibility for Repairman's Certificate; QI designation.
• Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
• Regular attendance required; on-call and occasional multiple night travel rotation.

Physical Demands

• Routinely lifts up to 50 lbs., occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Works in confined spaces and at heights above four feet.
• Reads small print and identifies colors.
• Hears sounds associated with mechanical deficiencies.
• Repetitive motion; works with moving parts and vibration.
• Tolerates exposure to products and materials associated with component maintenance.
• Tolerates standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, and sitting.

Environmental Conditions

• Works in extreme temperatures and noisy environments.

Qualifications

Avionics Technician I:

• Associate's degree in avionics, electronics, airframe/engine maintenance, or related field (or equivalent).
• Minimum one year of avionics, electronics, airframe maintenance, or related experience preferred.

Avionics Technician II:

• Associate's degree in avionics, electronics, airframe/engine maintenance, or related field (or equivalent).
• Minimum two years of avionics, electronics, airframe maintenance, or related experience required.

Avionics Technician III:

• Associate's degree in avionics, electronics, airframe/engine maintenance, or related field (or equivalent).
• Minimum five years of avionics, electronics, airframe maintenance, or related experience required.

Pay

The typical hourly starting pay range for positions in this job family in Florida is as follows:

• Satellite Avionics Technician I: $33.75–$38.05/hour
• Satellite Avionics Technician II: $36.87–$42.80/hour
• Satellite Avionics Technician III: $41.25–$48.65/hour
