About the Role

The Food Service Intern supports the Food Service Director and team directly with Food Service Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support Food Service Director with administrative work, including inventory, monthly food reconciliation, and meal claims.
  • Assist the Food Service Director in writing and standardizing recipes, as well as creating menus.
  • Support the Food Service Team in ensuring all food items are properly stored, rotated, and easily accessible.
  • Support the Food Service Team in plating and portioning meals for programs, retail café, and special functions.
  • Support the Food Service Director in maintaining temperature logs, SOPs, and cleaning schedules.
  • Complete related ad-hoc tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Food Handler’s Certification preferred.
  • Enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year college/university or culinary program.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook 365.
  • Working knowledge of social media.
  • Ability to work with Office 365 and Microsoft Teams.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Word and Excel.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Understanding of basic math for adding, subtracting, percentages, ratios, etc.

Working Environment

  • Works collaboratively and routinely with management staff and Agency employees.
  • Not eligible for remote work; a personal mobile phone is not required and therefore not eligible for mobile phone reimbursement.
  • While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear, and frequently use hands.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
