About the role
Austin Industries is seeking a skilled and safety-focused FRP Technician to install, repair, fabricate, and maintain Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) systems and components in industrial environments.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate, install, assemble, and repair fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) components and systems.
- Perform hand lay-up, spray-up, filament winding, and laminating processes as required.
- Cut, shape, fit, and assemble fiberglass materials according to project drawings and specifications.
- Install FRP piping systems, tanks, vessels, ductwork, structural components, and corrosion-resistant linings.
- Measure and verify material dimensions to ensure accurate fabrication and installation.
- Inspect FRP systems for defects, damage, wear, or corrosion.
- Perform repairs to fiberglass equipment, piping, tanks, and structural systems.
- Remove damaged materials and prepare surfaces for restoration and re-lamination.
- Apply protective coatings, liners, and corrosion-resistant systems as required.
- Conduct field repairs during plant outages, turnarounds, and maintenance events.
- Surface Preparation & Lamination
- Prepare surfaces through grinding, sanding, cleaning, and abrasive methods.
- Mix resins, catalysts, and hardeners according to manufacturer specifications.
- Apply fiberglass mat, cloth, and resin systems to achieve required thickness and strength.
- Ensure proper curing conditions are maintained throughout the fabrication and repair process.
- Monitor environmental conditions including humidity and temperature during application.
- Quality Control
- Verify completed work meets project specifications and quality requirements.
- Perform visual inspections and dimensional checks on completed FRP installations.
- Identify defects such as air voids, delamination, resin-rich areas, and insufficient thickness.
- Document quality issues and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Support QA/QC inspectors during inspections and testing activities.
- Equipment Operation
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, sanders, and fabrication equipment.
- Utilize measuring and testing instruments as required.
- Inspect and maintain assigned tools and equipment.
- Report damaged or unsafe equipment immediately.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum 2–5 years of industrial FRP experience preferred.
- Experience with fiberglass fabrication, repair, and installation techniques.
- Knowledge of resin systems, fiberglass materials, and composite construction methods.
- Strong understanding of industrial safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work packages.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Qualifications
- Required:

- Stacks.
- Corrosion-resistant liners.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of composite materials and fiberglass fabrication methods.
- Understanding of resin chemistry and curing processes.
- Ability to perform hand lay-up and laminating techniques.
- Familiarity with industrial corrosion protection systems.
- Ability to utilize measuring devices and inspection tools.
