About the role

The Front Office Assistant provides exceptional customer service throughout interactions with patients, families, and their support systems. As the face of the office, they create a patient-first environment and ensure an excellent first impression of OSF’s services to patients, families, and other external customers over the phone or in person. This role performs a variety of reception and clerical duties in a medical practice front office, adhering to department guidelines for scheduling and registration. The Front Office Assistant works collaboratively with patients, providers, office staff, and insurance companies to meet patient needs, communicates with insurance companies to determine patient benefits, completes prior-authorizations, and handles incoming and outgoing patient calls, co-pay collection, and appointment and procedure scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients, families, and external customers in person and over the phone.
  • Perform reception and clerical duties in a medical practice front office.
  • Adhere to department guidelines for scheduling and registration.
  • Collaborate with patients, providers, office staff, and insurance companies to meet patient needs.
  • Communicate with insurance companies to determine patient benefits and complete prior-authorizations.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing patient calls.
  • Collect co-pays and schedule appointments and procedures for patients.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Typing, filing, and telephone skills.
  • Basic Microsoft application proficiency.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Basic knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10, and CPT codes.
  • Preferred: Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience.
