Front End Software Engineer II

About The Role

The Software Engineer II - Front End plays a critical role within our engineering team, primarily focusing on developing and maintaining user-facing applications. Reporting to team leadership, this individual contributor will support project scope, schedule, and delivery goals while gaining a deeper understanding of the engineering processes within federal digital services. The role involves collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams—including backend engineers, QA specialists, and UX designers—to create seamless, accessible, and high-quality digital experiences.

The successful candidate will work on implementing UI components using Angular, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, translating Figma designs into functional interfaces aligned with federal Design System standards. They will also contribute to automated testing efforts, participate in CI/CD pipelines, and uphold accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1 AA. Additionally, they will engage in peer reviews, contribute to design system components, and support on-call rotations to ensure continuous service reliability.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant engineering experience or a Bachelor's degree with equivalent additional experience
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Angular for modern web application development
• Experience implementing UI designs from Figma or similar design tools
• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and their application in frontend development
• Experience working within CI/CD pipelines and version control systems like Git or GitLab
• Able to collaborate effectively across engineering, QA, and design teams in an agile environment
• Must meet federal suitability requirements and pass a background investigation

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain user-facing applications using Angular, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, ensuring compliance with federal design standards
• Translate UI/UX designs from Figma into functional, accessible web interfaces
• Write and maintain end-to-end automated tests using Selenium, Cypress, or similar frameworks
• Ensure frontend implementations meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards in collaboration with UX/Accessibility teams
• Debug, optimize, and monitor frontend applications across test and production environments
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, version control, and code review processes following the four-eyes principle
• Collaborate with backend engineers, QA, and UX teams to deliver complete features from story refinement through deployment
• Participate in SAFe ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, reviews, and retrospectives
• Assist in the development and maintenance of design system components to ensure consistency across modules
• Support on-call rotations and develop cross-functional knowledge through paired programming
