About the Role

The Front‑End Production Manager oversees the front‑end operations of the can‑making manufacturing process, ensuring production efficiency, quality, and safety. This role leads a team, optimizes processes, and maintains equipment to meet production targets while adhering to company policies and industry regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor front‑end production staff, including technicians and machine operators, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide training to enhance skill development.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of front‑end equipment, including cupping, body‑making, and trimming machines.
  • Monitor production metrics and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and collaborate with maintenance teams to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance to implement corrective actions for defects.
  • Enforce safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and environmental compliance.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance programs to optimize equipment lifespan.
  • Assist in planning and executing equipment upgrades and installations.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to improve machine performance.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to drive operational excellence.
  • Prepare and present reports on production performance, downtime, and efficiency improvements.
  • Participate in cross‑functional meetings to align production objectives with company goals.
  • Notify management of actual or potential food‑safety issues and act to resolve them within scope; if the position is vacant, responsibility shifts to the direct manager or a qualified designee.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Over five years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in can making or metal packaging.
  • Prior supervisory or managerial experience.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong technical expertise in can‑making equipment, including cuppers, body makers, and trimmers.
  • Familiarity with PLC‑controlled machinery and automated production systems.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on continuous improvement.

Computer Skills

Proficient in a Microsoft Windows environment, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and internal software programs.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, frequently required to sit and use hands to handle objects, tools, and controls, and frequently required to stand, walk, bend, and reach with hands and arms. The role frequently involves lifting or moving up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Required vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
