About the role
The Dr's Tech, also known as an Optometrist Technician or Optical Technician, will primarily assist under the store Doctor. This person is responsible for maintaining company standards while servicing all customers who enter the Doctor’s office, assisting with exam services, and facilitating the purchase of contact lenses.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service to all patients.
- Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, and policies regarding payment, returns, and exchanges.
- Compute and process payment transactions/refunds using the in-house Point of Sale system.
- Perform administrative tasks as assigned, including processing insurance claims efficiently.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products.
- Create and maintain patient files, following company and HIPAA policies regarding confidentiality.
- Input customer information into the computer system accurately.
- Assess and interpret patient’s needs/wants based on prescription requirements, facial features, lifestyle, and occupation; suggest appropriate products (e.g., frames, lens type, coatings).
- Sign-in patients, document insurance eligibility, and maintain patient charts per local Doctor specifications.
- Perform a thorough “pre-test” as directed by the local Doctor (e.g., NCT, auto-refraction, auto-keratometry, color test, brief medical history, visual acuity, load phoropter).
- Follow the local pathogen control policy as set by the local Doctor.
- Order, receive, and dispense contact lenses; notify customers of pick-up, job status, or delays.
- Assist with inventory control, including receiving stock, maintaining merchandising, monthly inventory, and loss prevention.
- Perform insertion and removal (I & R) training for contact lenses.
- Troubleshoot customer complaints and perform related work as directed by a Manager or Doctor.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience working in retail, customer service, or sales.
- Experience working in the optical industry is preferred but not required; we are willing to train.
