Virginia Eye Consultants, part of EyeCare Partners—the nation’s leading provider of clinically integrated eye care—seeks a full-time Patient Coordinator in Norfolk, VA. Occasional travel to satellite offices in Virginia Beach, Suffolk, and Hampton is required; mileage is reimbursed.

About the role

A Patient Coordinator acts as the first point of contact for patients, setting the tone for their visit through exceptional care and performing administrative tasks to ensure a smooth check-in/out experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone).
  • Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave.
  • Answer phones (both external and internal) with prompt, courteous service at all times.
  • Practice urgency with patients’ time and doctors’ schedules.
  • Manage patient flow in the office.
  • Knowledge of common fees charged for visits and collect correct payments.
  • Complete daily reconciliations, close the day, and count down the cash drawer.
  • Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by the manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees in a courteous, professional manner at all times.
  • Desire to gain industry knowledge and training.
  • Demonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goals.
  • Ability to grow, adapt, and accept change.
  • Consistently creates a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused.
  • Commitment to work over 40 hours to meet the needs of the business.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to multiple work locations with minimal notice.

Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%).
  • Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs.
  • Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands for constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology.
  • Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—required 100% of the time.
  • Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary.

Pay

$16.50–18.50 per hour, depending on experience.
