About the role

A day in the life involves dry bulk freight trading and operating responsibilities, supporting Bunge Latin America's commodities traders with ocean freight for spot and forward business.

Responsibilities

• Support traders with ocean freight backing for spot and forward business.
• Maintain profitability and effectiveness of vessels and cargo contracts using available tools.
• Coordinate and communicate with the Freight Product Line to maximize vessel efficiency and trading opportunities.
• Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, owners, customers, agents, and service providers to improve trading capabilities.
• Focus on time/voyage chartering that adds value to Bunge’s flows.
• Input and maintain data in Bunge software according to company rules.
• Produce internal reporting documents on financial and other aspects of freight trading.
• Provide best-in-class customer service to internal and external customers.
• Engage fully with the freight operations group to execute voyages and collaborate with ship masters, technical managers, customers, agents, brokers, and other entities.
• Assist in planning, routing, bunkering, laytime calculations, and other operating functions, interacting with BLA and cross-company departments.
• Assist in hedging the overall freight and bunkers position according to company strategy and position limits.
• Develop market analysis and trading strategies to advance growth opportunities in the region.
• Identify arbitrage opportunities from market imperfections in vessel types and geographies.
• Identify new business opportunities and expand the freight portfolio via multiple commodities and third-party activity.
• Build relationships with key potential customers across the Americas to complement existing networks.
• Expand third-party business aligned with company objectives, including full cargos and parceling opportunities across the Americas.
• Focus on time charter equivalent earnings, long-term contracts, and relationships that add value to flows.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, or a closely related field.
• 5 years of experience as an Associate Trader in Dry Bulk Freight or a similar role in the agribusiness industry, including at least 2 years of experience with vessel operations, futures pricing, logistics, and IMOS.
• Solid understanding of freight operations.
• Knowledge of commercial shipping contracts.
• Understanding of the basics of maritime law.
• Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
• Experience with profit & loss calculations and interpretation.
• Able to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment where organizational and decision-making skills are essential for handling multiple tasks.
